20th - 22nd September 2008 Wedding,
Rome, Italy - Christina and Marco
Firstly an apology to all those of you
who looked at the blog last weekend waiting for the
Italian updates, sadly I was lacking wireless in all
areas of the hotel, well all areas except the bar!
Saturday 20th September - Album
backgrounds and location reccie
A daft O'clock alarm signals that it's
Saturday morning and an early flight from East Midlands
awaits. Picking up Alex enroute we arrive early and
manage to avoid having the hand luggage weighed as part
of our allowance (thankfully, as between us we are
carrying two laptops, four cameras, five flashguns, lots
of batteries and roughly ten lenses!).
The flight to Rome Ciampino is a good
opportunity to catch up on some missing sleep as once we
land we are met at the airport by Christina and Marco
for a final run through for tomorrow's wedding.
The afternoon schedule involves a trip
into Rome city centre for a quick familiarisation before
tomorrows wedding. Although little has changed to the
historic areas in a thousand years, since my last visit
in January the Roman Forum has been fenced off and
requires a ticket for admission, even worse,
professional photo shoots are not allowed. This was the
location we were going to use to photograph the bridal
party, time to find a plan B!
Christina Added: I
just wanted to say on behalf on me and Marco thank you
so much for the photos - they are amazing, we are so
happy with them

Sunday 21st September - Wedding
Day!
The wedding is at 4PM so the morning
allows us the opportunity to relax and talk through the
days plans. Alex will be picked up at lunch time and
head off to join Marco and the guys as they get ready,
leaving me to cover Christina's preparations at the
villa.
It's a 45 minute drive to the church
and we manage to avoid the traffic and arrive a few
minutes early. Marco is obviously already here as his
wedding car (a tiny Fiat 126) is waiting at the bottom
of the steps. Reaching the church of
Santa Maria in Aracoeli involves climbing no less
than 124 steps - Christina has thankfully thought ahead
and brought two pairs of shoes!
| Marco
and his wedding car - apparently driving in it was
quite cramped, even more so for Richie the best man
as he was over 6ft! |

and quintessentially British to arrive in |

The inside of the church can only be
described as incredible, the warehouse sized building's
brick exterior belies the ancient and historic elegant
interior. The vastness of the church is quickly
forgotten as Christina and Marco marry in a very
intimate ceremony.
A number of formal family photos are
taken on the steps before we head back to the villa for
the wedding reception and the more informal coverage.
It's just after two when we finally turn off the cameras
and join the guests for a beer before heading off
to bed!

| In Italy is
customary for the guests to hurl rice and other
items masquerading as confetti at the bride and
groom as they leave the church. Marco is the main
target and takes cover as the onslaught begins! |

Monday 22nd September - Photo shoot
Because of the late afternoon ceremony
yesterday we were unable to photograph Christina and
Marco around the city in daylight, today's plan is to
return back and spend a couple of hours taking in the
Forum, Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, and time allowing, The
Spanish Steps and St Peters Square.
It's a hot busy day and quickly we
realise that even though we have a car we aren't going
to make all the locations on the hit list. With
Christina and Marco dressed in their full wedding
outfits it's quickly time to stop for a coffee and some
shelter before we continue on. A plan so cunning it
would have made Baldrick proud is all it takes to bypass
the The Forums strict no photo shoot rules and we spend
a good fifteen minutes walking through the ruins. A stop
at the Trevi fountain and all too soon it's been three
hours and we are back in the car heading towards the
villa.
Christina and Marco are heading off to
spend the night in the city leaving us to celebrate
Alex's birthday, now where did we say that wireless
connection was? |
