Heather and Cameron’s Allerton Castle Wedding | Allerton Castle Wedding Photography | Allerton Castle, North Yorkshire
Heather and Cameron were married earlier this month at Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire. In a new style blog I’ve left it to Heather and Cameron to describe their wedding day in their own words starting with the proposal.
The Proposal
Cameron proposed whilst we were on the beach on holiday in Zanzibar during the summer of 2018, we then planned our wedding in just over twelve months
The wedding venue – Allerton Castle North Yorkshire.
Allerton Castle was a clear winner from day one. It was the first venue we went to see. The ball room and great hall in particular won us over and of course the grand exterior gave it the wow factor. We did go see other venues such as a barn and a stately home but nothing came close to Allerton Castle for us.
The Wedding Dress
Wedding dress, started looking pretty soon after we got engaged and tried quite a few on that were all a different style to the one I ended up choosing which was a wild card pick from the bridal shop owner! I chose the dress in November last year and it arrived in April earlier this year. I actually got my dress from an independent bridal shop in my hometown where my parents still live which was a really nice touch. It was a Mon Cheri design wedding dress by Martin Thornburg.
The groom and Groomsmen’s suits
“The groomsmen suits were from Mossbros, I went for a light grey for the guys with a little bit of burgundy to match some colours in my suit. My burgundy suit was hand made and we knew the colour would really compliment the wedding colour scheme and the time of year. Also with me working in the model industry I have done many bridal shoots and almost all the time wear a black or navy coloured suit so I wanted my wedding suit to be something very different.”
Floristry – Natasha Jane Events
I knew I wanted a bouquet with lots of autumnal colours especially burgundy but it was really looking on Pinterest that gave me the inspiration! Plus speaking with our florist Natasha – she knew instantly how to put the colours together that I wanted, all I had to do was send her some photos and she did the rest!
Heather’s father had no idea about the wedding dress, style or colour and so we took the opportunity to capture the moment he saw his Heather in her dress for the first time. Emotions high as they were literally ready to walk to the ceremony. The dress had also been kept out of sight of the bridesmaids and again it was an opportunity to photograph their reactions as they saw heather for the first time in her wedding dress.
“Our wedding music for the whole day was provided the brilliant Event Music Company. A trio for the ceremony and drinks reception and a full band for the evening. What we didn’t know was they were also providing surprise singing waiters.” (More on that in a moment).
The wedding ceremony.
Taking place in Allerton Castle’s amazing Great Hall which always offers amazing photo opportunities in this almost Cathedral like area of the Castle the wedding ceremony begins with the bridal party making their way down the grand staircase.
“Walking down the stairs into the ceremony was one thing I was extremely nervous about in the build up to the wedding! But when the moment came I absolutely loved it as I could see Cam just smiling away at me and loads of familiar faces in the room, I actually enjoyed that part massively but I found the ceremony more emotional than I anticipated which meant the nerves didn’t really settle straight away. When the owl flew off with the rings and made everyone laugh – that definitely helped! ”
Cameron ” Amazing having my Dad up there with me as best man, very special being able to share that moment, for that reason this photograph is one of my favourites from the day”
Heather “My hands were shaking so much when the best man passed me the wedding ring to give to Cam, I was terrified I was going to drop it but somehow I didn’t and Chris managed to capture these gorgeous photos.”
“We chose two readings for our wedding ceremony ‘on your wedding day’ which was a popular one that we liked and then ‘he never leaves the seat up’ for a more light hearted and funny one as well which we changed slightly to suit us more. Readings in the ceremony were by my mum and Cam’s step sister Nikki ”

The ballroom at Allerton Castle and just a few of the details of their wedding breakfast layout. The wedding cake expertly made by Hannah’s kitchen featured the story of their relationship form meeting in Leeds to the proposal and finally the top tier silhouette featuring Allerton Castle as their wedding venue.
The wedding breakfast, surprise singing Waiters and speeches
The wedding breakfast took place in the Ballroom, with grand views out to the folly and surrounding estate, ornate ceiling and chandeliers. Catering for the wedding breakfast was provided by Bradshaws catering. Between courses Cameron’s mum had planned a surprise for the bride and groom in the form of singing waiters.
Cameron “The singing waiters completely baffled us both for the first few minutes! At first we thought the guy was just trying his luck to sing for some wedding guests and I was getting slightly concerned as I had planned the wedding timings to the precise minute but when the guy walked out and the woman started belting out opera – we worked it out then!”
Heather “The speeches were amazing. My dad’s joke about his tiny kilt is a stand out moment as it made the whole room laugh and Cam’s speech was just brilliant, emotional and hilarious. Him referring to my 7 bridesmaids as the 7 dwarfs from Snow White definitely sticks in my mind Then cam’s mum and dad said such lovely things and the best man was funny too – it was a highlight of the day for me (Heather) especially.”
The First Dance:
Our first dance song was ‘tale as old as time’ from beauty and the beast. We wanted my sister to sing our first dance song for us so we agreed on something that she felt comfortable to sing and that we also loved – we are Disney fans so it was just perfect for us.
Lisa Kellie (Singing first Dance)– “By far the scariest but best thing I’ve ever done. When Heather asked me to be her maid of honour a year ago I didn’t realise she’d also be asking me to not only sing at her wedding, but for their first dance . A few visits up to Leeds throughout the year to practice with The Event Music Company and I’m pretty happy how it turned out. The emotion I felt during this was something else, the best feeling in the world when I saw their smiling faces giving me the thumbs up that it was sounding okay, I love these two so much, but don’t ask me to sing at anymore family events!”.
A long exposure drone photograph of Allerton Castle after dark, the glow in the sky coming from the nearby lights of York. With the right conditions we are able to fly after dark and create amazing wedding venue photographs. Due to weather and the required permissions for drone operations we can’t guarantee drone images on the day but as a fully licensed and insured drone operator I’ll try my very best to create them,
We managed to sneak out for some photographs between courses to make the most of the stunning Allerton Castle as our backdrop with just a faintest hint of light in the sky. During this time we also popped a couple of bottles of champagne to create some different wedding photographs that would make a great ending to the wedding album. Little did we know at this point it would rain just before we were planning to use sparklers and so we trumped what I thought would be their finale image with an umbrella and castle photograph.
Heather “There were so many photographs that simply blew us away, Chris did an amazing job, an actual artist we are blown away with his photos ! I think this is my favourite from the day. Showing my dress, Cam and the amazing staircase.”
Heather “All of our suppliers were brilliant. We used Natasha Jane events for flowers and decoration, Chris Hilton and The Event Music Company provided music for the full wedding day – The way Natasha styled our wedding and the music for our ceremony and throughout our evening reception definitely stand out.
My hair was styled by Mousie browns, Rachel O’Dell made an amazing job of my wedding make up. our wedding cake was made may the talented Hannah’s Kitchen and featured the story out our relationship with a tier highlighting how we met, our proposal and finally where we married., Tom Midgley is creating our wedding video,
The wedding planners at Allerton Castle, Libby and Jessica were invaluable and Bradshaws catering couldn’t have given us better service. And of course you Chris for the photography, our amazing photos speak for themselves, Chris is an actual artist we are blown away with his photos !”
