Suited to both new and established wedding and portrait photography businesses, taking place over the year the course is split into six main group meetings which take place mid week and are scheduled for the year in advance and around availability of the group to ensure everyone has the opportunity to attend in person or can log in online to the meeting.
These meetings are supplemented by a number of extra online meetings and webinars via Zoom. Meetings whether online or zoom are recorded and available to watch on catch up in the private members Facebook group along with copies the meeting notes to download
The aim of the one year course.

The meetings are a mix of practical photography time working with models and business training. Business topics covered over the course will include extensive Marketing, Pricing, Albums, Samples and products, Increasing online sales and galleries, Search Engine Optimisation, Managing and optimising Social Media, Workflow in Lightroom and Photoshop, Album design, Wedding planning and organisation etc

With the advent of AI generated searches, Search Everywhere Optimisation as it should now be called and getting placed highly on Google / Chat GPT are key to a long term marketing strategy and generating visitors and ultimately bookings to your website. During the year we’ll be looking at specific examples and proven ideas to improve your ranking and how to convert website visitors to bookings whilst minimising ghosting and reducing your advertising costs. Little technical knowledge required, you don’t even need a website to start!
Social Media
Social media is one of the most powerful tools you have for building genuine connections and attracting the right couples, and throughout the year we’ll dive into how to make it work for your business. Together, we’ll create thoughtful, achievable social media plans and explore strategies tailored to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok—helping you show confidence, consistency and personality.
You’ll learn how to create posts that work, how to share your images in a way that shows consistency, ability and personality, and how to use each platform’s strengths to reach and inspire your ideal clients.
Referrals, Venue Relationships and wedding fairs
Referrals account for more of my bookings than Google and any other form of paid advertising, alongside strengthening your online marketing, we’ll explore simple yet powerful ways to grow referrals from suppliers, venues and even wedding guests. You’ll learn how to get involved in the right wedding fairs and make the very most of each one you attend.
Directories and online advertising
Wedding directories can be very hot and miss, for some it’s a real hit and others a total waste of hundreds or thousands of pounds. Although I can’t guarantee a magic formula through many years of working with lots of of photographers I have created a strategy that delivers results, through choosing the right directories and strategy we’ll look at how you can quickly and cheaply boost enquiries and convert. them to bookings

Products, prices and packages.
Starting at meeting one and continuing at each meeting, we’ll be looking in depth throughout at your prices, products and packages to ensure we are maximising sales and profit at the time of booking and after the wedding. Working closely with our album supplier Nphoto you’ll have access to a number of special offers and discounts to enable you to build a collection of wedding sample products.
From the very first meeting and at every session thereafter, we’ll take a deep dive into your pricing, products, and packages to make sure you’re not only attracting your ideal clients, but also maximising sales and profit, both at the time of booking and long after the wedding day with upgrades and additional options to help increase your customer spend
As part of this process, you’ll work closely with album partner, Nphoto, giving you access to exclusive offers and special discounts. This makes it easy to start building a beautiful collection of wedding sample products, including wall art, display items and of course stunning wedding albums.

Workflow and editing.
Speeding up workflow is just the start of the topic, we’ll look at various ways we can work faster to create a distinctive style which your clients will love. Workflow will also include time spent on album design, proofing and production of albums

Using Lightroom and Photoshop to streamline your editing, enhance your images, and maintain a consistent, polished look. We’ll also explore how AI, presets and actions can speed up repetitive tasks, allowing you to focus on the creative touches that make your photography stand out.
Workflow isn’t just about editing—it also covers album design, client proofing, and the production of stunning albums. You’ll create a seamless, professional process in place that saves time, reduces stress, and elevates every part of your photography business.

EXCLUSIVE group photography days
There are optional group days out where we explore a wide range of photography subjects and techniques including the use of drones. Previous years have enjoyed days together photographing cityscapes, equine portraits, dogs, steam trains, aircraft, models and more. These exclusive one year student days are both fun and invaluable hands-on learning, giving you the chance to push your creativity and hone your skills.

Increasing online gallery and product sales
From capturing the magic of each wedding to presenting it in a stunning online gallery, we’ll explore both online and in-person sales strategies designed to maximise every opportunity and increase the average spend per wedding. You’ll learn how to create a seamless, memorable experience for your clients while uncovering ways to generate additional revenue from each wedding, turning every booking into a chance to grow your business whilst marketing yourself.

Diversifying and Opportunities
Although we spend a lot of time working in the business of wedding photography, the course will also look at areas we can diversify and expand our business with little or no additional cost. These will include
- Commercial photography including property, drone and headshots
- Stock Library Sales – a passive income from images you have already created and during the year we’ll typically have one or two days where you can come along and join me shooting stock images
- Video – Adding Video to your wedding photography package is a way of increasing your customer spend, well spend time looking at how you can do this and at real weddings you can observe how we create the real thing
- Portraits – We’ll discuss portrait shoots and mini sessions including pricing.
- Branding Photography – Commercial portraits and brand photography is a fast growing area, during the one year business course we’ll look at how you can market this and also create a portfolio ready to go.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance are the meeting dates planned?
We’ll aim to plan and confirm the all 6 meeting dates as soon as possible with a view to meeting one being in February. We will schedule these around existing commitments and holidays (Meetings don’t usually take place in July and August as its peak wedding and holiday season). meetings will be mid week and we do ask that you have flexibility in your calendar for most days of the week, for example if you can only attend meetings on Mondays you may need to look at booking a personal development program instead – contact me for details of a one year 1-1 course designed exclusively for you.
How many weddings can I attend and can I bring a camera?
Over the year some students will attend several weddings, (The record is 8) whilst others only one or two, there’ll be plenty of opportunities through the year and ideally each student should attend 2 or 3. Initially attending without a camera, you’ll learn more through watching and assisting (this isn’t carrying my bag, I’m big enough to do that myself), later if wee are both happy you’ll be able to come along with a camera and shoot alongside me.
My business is just starting, will the course be suited to me?
Totally! The course agenda is suited to both established and new businesses, Sounds implausible but you’ll find a mix of experience in each group and from total new start ups to photographers who have been established for 10+ years. We all need to continue to learn and develop new skills
