Laura and Mike’s Wedding in Santorini | Santorini Wedding Photographer | Cavo Ventus Wedding Photography

Laura and Mike chose the stunning island of Santorini for their wedding earlier in the summer. With amazing views, typically Greek architecture and almost guaranteed weather you could hardly blame them. I joined them on Santorini for four days to photograph their wedding day and also a pre-wedding shoot the day before. Please contact me if you’d like details about photographing your destination wedding.

Why did you choose Santorini, Despite the obvious weather, charm and stunning landscapes!

“We were originally looking in the UK but the minimum numbers they required for the date we wanted (9th May an anniversary of us getting together) were a lot higher than the small and intimate wedding we really wanted. We decided to look at a foreign wedding but had some criteria in choosing our location.  We wanted relatively short flight so researched and Santorini came up. The view of the caldera attracted us to the island. We booked to go out the year before to see venues and test out the weather

Laura “I had my heart set on one wedding venue, we viewed it and I didn’t get the feeling I wanted for my wedding venue so we looked at several others and non were what I had in my mind. Our wedding planner Stef stepped in and recommenced an altogether different venue instead and we went to look at and fell in love with Cavo Ventus.

The view, the privacy, the concept that we stayed there for 4 nights. I was attracted to the ‘real’ traditional building style of Santorini with the volcanic bricks instead of the white wash buildings. It was love at first sight and I was hopping around like a giddy kipper.”

What made you say yes to the wedding dress and how did you manage to take it on an aeroplane?

“My Actual wedding dress was my second choice. The first choice I saw online and  an appointment to try it on but that was two months away
so I booked appointments at other dress shops in the meantime and established the shape that suited my body best. I had hoped I’d actually find a wedding dress during these appointments but didn’t, I was actually a little concerned that I’d never find what I was actually looking for.
My long awaited appointment finally arrived and although the dress I’d originally seen didn’t seem right, the second choice fitted the bill perfectly. The dress was the Kellan gown by Hayley Paige. We dissected the dress to remove a petticoat underneath to fit it in hand luggage  Everyone was shocked it fit in the impossibly small case.”

Where did you shop for  Mikes and the grooms mens suits?
“We liked a light blue suit but Mike as flamboyant and he is wanted Paisley and bright socks. We had no choice but to have the suit tailored, this was done at Carl Stewart’s in Ossett. The ties also came from there to match bridesmaid’s dresses. ”

Hair/make up:
“Both hair and make up were  by the same person Julia Popova. I found her from a Facebook group for Santorini Brides, she had been highly recommended.”

Most memorable part of the day:
Laura ” Apart from marrying my best friend, yes I know it’s super cheesy! IU suppose it would have been Fudging our wedding vows! … we giggled and belly laughed our way through the mistakes in our vows and tried our best to understand Mr John the celebrant and then it repeat back. It was not easy! I wouldn’t have had it any other way because me and Mike are not serious people.

Mike “for me it was seeing Laura walk top the steps and into he aisle, she looked beautiful and it’s  a moment I’ll never forget. ”

Tips any bride and grooms looking at booking a Santorini Wedding?
You could do it without a planner but I wouldn’t. The pricing is so confusing. Their tax is changing and their hidden small print could cause people unforeseen costs. Their procedure of getting documents translated is a bit complicated so I’m glad we had a planner to take care of that and just make sure everything went smoothly on the day. We found our suppliers and planner from the Facebook page Santorini brides again. Very helpful for all aspects of wedding.

Santoniri Sunsets are truly magical and seen to be beloved.  I just had to add this photograph of Laura and Mike just before the sun disappears behind a distant island.
