The Proposal

“Christmas Day 2016, at home opening Christmas presents with our 1 year old daughter. Si bought me what I thought was a white towel… when I opened it properly, it was a white dressing robe with Mrs Clarkson stitched on the back and my new to be initials on the front. He then produced an engagement ring and popped the question. It was an amazing surprise for me, we then had to rush to open the rest of our presents to get out the house in time for Christmas dinner at our parents.”

The Wedding Venue – Hazlewood Castle near York.

“Si had driven past Hazlewood Castle everyday for 10 years driving to work and knew it was a fantastic wedding venue with a lot of history. When we looked around it together we loved it, we loved the character and charm, thankfully our planned wedding date was available. A great beautiful wedding venue with everything we wanted.”

The wedding Dress

“My wedding dress was only the second dress I tried on in the first shop. I loved it from the moment I put it on and decided to look no further. It was a new design and  I was one of the first brides to wear it. I was unsure what style would suit me until I tried it on – a fishtail dress with lots of detail, sparkle and a train.”

Bridesmaids and Flower Girls

“I had three Bridesmaids –  Two  friends from high school who I have stayed close with despite living on different sides of the country. 1 who I met when I moved to Leeds 12 years ago and started my accounting training with. A fun bunch of girls who have always been there for me. Flower girls were my daughter Aged 4 and two nieces aged 4 and 2.”

The groom and Groomsmens suits

“The guys suits were from the high street. Si opted for an authentic bow tie that took several hours of practice!! Our son wore a bow tie to match Si’s. ”

The wedding Theme and Colours

Fun! We didn’t have a theme as such, just a green colour scheme and we wanted everyone to have fun – fun included a game of bingo during the speeches and inflatable props for dancing!

The Brides Bouquet and Floral Arrangements.

“The bridesmaids helped organise the flowers – sourcing a florist in Preston.  We were going to do the table decorations ourselves with flowers but the florist kindly put them together for us. My maid of honour made my bouquet.”

How did you personalise the wedding day to the two of you

“A chapel service at Hazlewood Castle written by ourselves with assistance from Rev. Ian. We also took the opportunity to have our 2 children christened at the same time. Having our two children there made it very personal to us with our daughter as a flower girl and our son as honorary best man. ”

“My cousin produced an amazing five tier wedding cake complete with our family figurines on top and our friend drew a finger print tree for guests called ‘Eat Sleep Art Repeat’. ”

The First Dance

For our first dance we chose  Baby I Love you by The Ramones… the song was simple and made a change from the typical top first dance songs. The title said it all.

Personal Wedding Highlights

A helicopter ride over York organised as a surprise by Vics work friends after the meal. Neither of us had been in a helicopter. The weather was perfect and just after we came into land the heavens opened and there was a beautiful rainbow – perfect for our photos!

The wedding from start to finish was organised in 32 days from initial phone call to the big day. Everything went like clockwork. A great venue, photographer, vicar and the vast majority of our guests were able to make it with short notice

Si standing on our sons barefoot at the start of the first dance, which created lots of tears!

Any tips for brides currently planning their wedding day?

Don’t stress, it doesn’t have to take a long time, a lot can be achieved in a short space of time.

Your favourite wedding photograph?

” It has to be the almost double rainbow / helicopter picture when it’s raining and we are under the umbrella. It captured the moment perfectly.”
