Noami and Tom chose the spectacular Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire for their wedding day. The wedding, themed around Disney’s Beauty and The Beast couldn’t have had a more apt setting as the fairytale wedding venue that is Allerton Castle. In their own words below Naomi and Tom describe their wedding and wedding day.
Tell me about the proposal.
Tom proposed to me on 3rdFebruary 2017 during our early valentine’s weekend away to Grosvenor Hotel & Spa in Chester. He booked a suite for us to stay in which had champagne, chocolates and flowers waiting for me on arrival. A proposal was not running through my mind at all as I thought it was my valentines treat. Tom had booked a table in the restaurant at the hotel on the evening and when we came back up to the room later in the evening there was a trail of petals amongst candles on the floor leading to cards set out saying “Naomi Will You Marry Me”. Our song “The One” by Kodaline was also playing. Tom then got down on one knee and read out a beautiful speech which he had prepared and then asked if I would marry him. I cried with joy and of course said yes of course!
You chose a spectacular wedding venue and one which fitted your wedding theme perfectly. What made you decide on Allerton Castle for your wedding day?
Getting married at a castle has always been a dream of mine. We visited the wedding fair at Allerton Castle and we immediately fell in love with it! The staircase entrance was absolutely breath taking and we could immediately see our wedding taking place there. We loved the fact that the castle was ours for the day filled with only our family and friends. The whole setting was so romantic. I always wanted a traditional style wedding and Allerton Castle was so well maintained and has endless photo opportunities to remember our special day from.
Saying Yes to the Dress – How long did it take you to find “The One”?
My wedding dress was from Bridal Oasis in Goole by designer Mori Lee. When browsing at dresses online I took to the designer Mori Lee and I booked an appointment with Bridal Oasis when I saw they had the 2019 design trunk show. The dress I bought was the complete opposite to what I had in my mind and was a complete wildcard, however I immediately fell in love with it when I tried it on and just knew it was “the one”.
Who were the bridesmaids?
I chose to have my 2 sisters and my best friend as my bridesmaids. I also had my 2 nieces and Tom’s niece as our flower girls. The adult bridesmaids wore dusky pink off the shoulder full length dresses.
Where did the guys go for their suits and was there a particular style you were looking for?
The guys got their suits from Len Beck’s in Hull. Our colour theme was navy blue, dusky pink and gold. The bridesmaids wore dusky pink and therefore we wanted the guys to be in navy blue as a nice contrast. We knew we wanted the guys to have tails as this would be in theme with the castle wedding. We also liked the tweed waistcoats and therefore was very pleased when Len Beck’s had exactly what we were after.
Glacial Ice Sculptures provided this amazing Rose in a Dome Sculpture for the wedding day. The sculpture took pride of place in Allerton Castle’s Great Hall
What was the theme of the day and how did you show this on the day?
Our wedding theme was Beauty and the Beast. We thought this was perfect in the setting of Allerton Castle. We wanted subtle hints of our theme throughout the day. We had the most beautiful ice sculpture of the rose in a dome with Lumiere and Cogsworth stood either side.
Our aisle runner said “A Tale As Old As Time” and I also came down the aisle to our string quartet playing “Tale As Old As Time. For our wedding breakfast, all our tables were named after different characters out of the film as well. Our cake also had the rose out of beauty and the beast suspended in the middle of the cut out hole. Our guestbook was also hand-made Beauty and the Beast themed.
Who provided your amazing wedding flowers?
Our florist was Floral Lounge in Sutton in Hull. The choice of flowers we chose were a mixture of roses, dahlias, gypsophilia, wax flowers, hydrangeas, and orchids. The colours were ivory with blush pink and dusky pink tones coming through
What made the wedding feel so personal?
We always wanted a traditional style wedding and Allerton Castle was perfect in that sense. The castle was exclusively ours for the day which is something we wanted as it made it more of an intimate atmosphere with only our dear family and friends there celebrating the day with us.
Tell me about your first dance and your chosen song
Our first dance song was “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. We could really relate to the lyrics of the song which is why it meant so much to us. We even went to dance lessons to have a dance choreographed for us which was fun in the lead up to the wedding day.
What were the main stand out and memorable moments for us?
Our first memorable moment of the day was seeing the venue all dressed as it was a real sense of achievement seeing all our long nights planning the wedding come together to create something so special to us both.
Another memorable moment was walking down the aisle and saying our vows in front of our family and friends. We also loved the evening celebrations with the band and DJ getting everyone up dancing and seeing everyone having such a great time, not to mention the firework display to finish the night. It is so hard to choose one moment as the whole wedding day was so fantastic!
Do you have any tips for future brides planning their wedding day?
Enjoy the run up to the wedding as the last 6 months before the wedding goes in a flash! Also, take time to sit back during your wedding to take it all in. Try to have 10 minutes alone just you and your new husband to take in the atmosphere of the day.
Which is your favourite wedding photograph and why?
Our favourite wedding photograph from the day has to be the black and white photo on the amazing staircase, it’s like a setting from a fairytale and has the feeling of being a princess in my own castle. It captures the detailing of my dress perfectly, along with the flowers climbing the handrails of the stairs. The woodwork surrounding is just stunning .
