The Manor House was the venue for my last wedding before Christmas, the exclusive wedding venue near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire was the perfect choice for Shabana and Jonny’s wedding day. I’ll leave it them both to tell you all about their wedding day and planning in their own words below….

We Chose the Manor House Lindley…..

ShabanaManor House Lindley was everything that we wanted in a wedding venue. We first visited during an open day and fell in love with the décor of the venue. It was clear that a great deal of thought and planning had gone into the design of every single room. The staff were incredibly welcoming and their attitude demonstrated that they were passionate about helping us create the perfect wedding. Within a week of visiting, we had arranged a meeting with the wedding planners and book our special day.”

Please tell me about the proposal….

Jonny “I proposed to Shabana in July 2022 in the woods near our home. Knowing that Shabs enjoys orienteering and adventures I created a treasure hunt by first planning a route through the woods and then attaching letters to trees along the way.

I gave her a map to help her on this quest and created an anagram for her to decipher. In the end the map would lead her to a specific location where I had hidden her favourite flower, a blue orchid and a box full of memories that I had collected since our first date. As she began to look through the box, I got down on one knee and proposed with a short speech I had prepared. She said yes whilst looking extremely stunned.”

Saying yes to the Dress –  How long did it take to find “the one”

Shabana “It took nearly two months to find my dress. I visited five different bridal shops and struggled to find the one. In the end, I found my perfect dress in a shop called Wed2b in Leeds. I spontaneously decided to visit the shop on my own, tried on the dress and knew it was the one.”

Please tell me about your wedding flowers, bouquets etc

Shabana “The florist used for our wedding was La Fleur Florist (Huddersfield). Given that our wedding took place in December, we decided on a winter theme for our flowers which included white rose, ivy and thistle. We chose green foliage for our table wreaths and had the florist introduce elements from the bouquet into Jonathan’s button hole. Our centre piece matched the bouquet and was used during the ceremony and then later moved to the top table during the wedding breakfast.”

How did you personalise your wedding day at Manor House Lindley?

Shabana “We always knew that we wanted an intimate wedding with a relatively small number of guests. The staff at Manor House were excellent in hearing our wishes and also in volunteering suggestions to ensure we had the best day possible. Being able to say our own personal vows and choose how every single aspect of the day unfolded gave us comfort in knowing it would be everything we dreamed it could be.

We were always greeted with enthusiasm by the staff and our suggestions were met with positivity. Although this was our day, we wanted our guests to enjoy the wonderful experience as much as we would. Every guest gave positive feedback about the day, whether it was the delicious food, joyous and fun atmosphere, beautiful venue or free hot drinks from the Cute Little Drinks Van.”

Tell me about your first dance, which song did you dance to and why you chose it?

Shabana Our first dance was to ‘Michael Bublé – can’t help falling in love’. We chose this song because of the meaningful lyrics and Bublé’s great voice. We also liked the pace of the song as we aren’t seasoned dancers.

Memorable wedding day moments and memories you’ll cherish forever?

Jonny “There were many moments during our wedding day that we will both cherish for the rest of our lives. Seeing Shabs walk down the aisle is something I will never forget. It brought a great deal of emotion to the surface. Reading our own vows was also a very special moment which had both of us welling up with tears. The same can be said for our speeches, especially when sharing how much we meant to each other. Our first dance also stands out as we forgot everyone else was there. It felt like we were alone and time had stood still.”

Do you have any tips for couples planning their wedding day?

Jonny “Buy a wedding planner book to help keep track of everything. Work together as a couple, although Shabs did a great deal of the planning and communication, I made sure that she didn’t feel alone and we both contributed to what needed to be done.

We also recommend having wedding planners who have your best interests at heart, who are organised and who keep an open channel of communication throughout.” Jonny proving the ever helpful groom and high praise for the wedding team at Manor House Lindley

Which is your favourite wedding photograph and why?

Shabana “It is incredibly hard to choose just one favourite as we love them all! If we had to choose just one, it would be one of the Coach House bar photographs. The scene is so grand it doesn’t look real and we both look really happy. (Shabana and Jonny’s favourite wedding photograph below)”
