KIMBERLEY AND BEN’S HAZLEWOOD CASTLE WEDDING | HAZLEWOOD CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Kimberley and Ben were married late summer at Hazlewood Castle. A chapel wedding and wedding breakfast in the castle followed by an evening reception over in the woodlands wedding area.

Helicopter rides, Limo, Eskie the dog, balloons, champagne, smoke bombs, huge laughs and big beaming smiles all day long. What a wedding!

I recently asked Kimberley and Ben a few questions about  their Hazlewood Castle wedding.

You Chose Hazlewood Castle for your wedding day, what was it that made Hazlewood the ideal venue for you?

“We looked around 9 different local venues and decided on Hazlewood Castle for a number of reasons; firstly we wanted to have our dog celebrate the day with us as our ring bearer and Hazlewood Castle is dog friendly. In addition we loved that we could book every room and pretty much have the venue to ourselves. The team at Hazlewood Castle were very flexible. The Castle also has a chapel within the grounds, which meant we didn’t need to travel from one place to another. All of these reasons aside, the one factor that really stood out was the beautiful woodlands and grounds, it was so unique and we thought it was perfect for our wedding pictures”

Please tell me about the proposal

“My husband and I work together and he created a ruse, pretending that we were going on a training course, which coincidentally the other directors were unable to attend. On the day we were supposed to leave he hand wrote a note explaining that we were actually going on a romantic getaway. The running joke in the office is that I was disappointed about missing out on the development course! We then enjoyed a five day break at the Isle of Eriska and he proposed on the morning of our 6th year anniversary over the balcony with rose petals showing me the way. It was magical.

Saying yes to the dress – how long did it take you to find “the one”?

I went to three different wedding dress shops over the course of 3 months (with a mini lockdown in the middle). The Harrogate Wedding Lounge had two dresses I was torn between and we eventually decided on the right one, I took it home with me that day.

Who did you have for your bridesmaids and what did they wear?

I had four bridesmaids, one from each stage of my life, the first was my new sister in law, followed by my best friend from Primary School, Secondary school and University. They wore a light pink flowing dress from Coast which I loved.

Who supplied the groom and groomsmen’s suits and was there a particular style you were looking for?

Moss Bros supplied the mens suits, we had all of our close relatives as well as the ushers and groomsmen matching and we wanted a dark blue suit to fit in with the colour scheme.

What was the theme for your wedding and how did you show this on the day?

We went with a travel theme so all of the tables in the Great Hall were labeled after countries our guests on the table related to, the favours were travel orientated and the name places were miniature suitcases.

Who provided your wedding flowers and what type of flowers / bouquet did you choose

Joanna Keeley provided our wedding flowers and she was absolutely fantastic, we had a broken arch which was moved from the Chapel to the Wedding Breakfast. In addition, she made the most beautiful teardrop bridal bouquet with roses that matched the bridesmaids dresses. In addition, Joanna managed to make a flower headdress for me to wear at the evening do as well as creating a flower collar for our dog Eskie.

What made your wedding feel personal to you?

My Grandad recently passed away and he looked just like the older character from the film Up, so I bought a teddy and put it on my family table, everyone loved it! I also bought a box of tissues for one of my friends that is prone to crying and printed out pictures of all of the guests and left them on the Wedding Breakfast tables.

Tell me about your first dance, which song did you dance to and why?

We actually danced to two half songs, the first was Ed Sheeran Perfect because we met when we were young and the second was dancing in the moonlight because we were in the woodland venue and we both love the song! The first half was a romantic slow dance and then we choreographed the second half, the guest atmosphere was electric.

What were your standout moments of the wedding day and memories you’ll cherish forever?

The helicopter ride just the two of us, it was my first time in a helicopter and it gave us 15 minutes of uninterrupted time to ourselves. In addition we ended up flying over Leeds Festival which was phenomenal! My dad also saved Ben’s first valentines card from 7 years ago and read us some of the words in his speech, he had the whole room in tears.

Do you have any tips for couples planning their wedding day?

“There will be difficulties and issues that come up, whether it be with family members, choosing dresses or finding the right wedding venue. When things don’t go quite according to plan take a step back and either laugh at the situaton or go with the flow; make it perfectly imperfect!”
